History of Auburn

Auburn was originally incorporated as “Slaughter,” named after William Slaughter, who died in an Indian skirmish in 1855. At the time, the main hotel in town was called the “Slaughter House.”

Welcome to The Auburn Downtown Association

For over 100 years the city of Auburn has provided visitors and residents the opportunity to discover why this town is like no other. Auburn is the land of two rivers, home to two nations and spread across two counties. Located between Seattle and Tacoma in the shadow of Mt. Rainier, Auburn is the perfect place to work, play and spend a lifetime. It is a warm, embracing community where people still stop to say hello.

Come see our new Downtown Plaza Parks and Promenade on our historic Main Street, the new home of events, parades and festivals! Browse through the event calendar and add your favorites to your 2013 experience calendars.
